What is SHPE? • SHPE was founded in 1974 in Los Angeles, CA • Mission: SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development. • Vision: SHPE’s vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.

SHPE Points • SHPE Points reflect member involvement within the organization. • Points are often used to determine who is invited to special SHPE events, such as member outings and the National and Regional Conferences. • Earn SHPE points by attending GBMs and Study Jams, volunteering at SHPE events, becoming a part of SHPE committees, etc.

Conferences • Regional Conference • March 2013 • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston) • Last year’s conference was in San Juan, Puerto Rico! • National Conference • November 14-18 • Fort Worth, Texas • 200+ Company Career Fair! • Professional, Leadership, and Networking Opportunities • LOI’s due September 23

  16. SHPE Outreach • Program for high school students • Workshops • Olympics • Extreme Engineering Challenge • Outreach 2013: • March 22nd – 24th • Applications out in early October!

  17. SHPE Junior @ Amsterdam High School • 14 applications so far! • Received funding from SHPE Foundation • Fill out an application on the SHPE-RPI website to help out! • Plan events • Serve as role models for SHPE Jr. members *First event in October!

  21. NSBE/SHPE Career Fair • 34th Annual Career Fair • Largest Student Run Career Fair in the Nation! • When: September 28-29 from 10 AM – 3:30 PM • Where: RPI Armory • Register online at http://careerfair.rpi.edu/index.php/area/register

Become an Ambassador for the 34th Annual NSBE/SHPE Career Fair! • Ambassadors are the liaisons between company recruiters and the RPI community • Assist Recruiter with setup and takedown of their booth • Offers a chance to network and interact with a recruiter • Tentative Ambassador meeting dates: • Thursday 9/20 and Monday 9/24
