  1. Monday, September 9, 2013 Force and Motion Mrs. Hensley Sedgefield Middle School

  2. Do now! • On the next available page of your scientific journal, please respond to the following question: • Do you believe time travel is possible? If so, what time period would you travel to and what would you like to do or who would you like to meet?

  3. In your Scientific Journal, please create a 3 column chart with 7 rows. It should look like this:

  4. Under the questions column write the following: • 1. What is being observed? • 2. What will be the result of this experiment? Do you think the toy car will win or will the real car win? • 3. What did Mythbusters need to create this experiment?

  5. Under the questions column write the following: • 4. What did Mythbusters need to conduct this experiment? • 5. Please record the results of the Mythbusters experiment. • 6. What did the Mythbuster’s team conclude? What would you do differently?

  6. Now you will watch the video • http://app.discoveryeducation.com/player/view/assetGuid/53721877-54E9-4813-8FDB-2CA9FA5AAC65

  7. Have you recorded the necessary information? Toy car? Real car?

  8. Now exchange journals with your table mate • Quietly discuss your finding and thoughts on the Mythbusters experiment. • Did you share the same thoughts and conclusions? • You have 3 minutes to do this. • Give the journals back and summarize your table mate’s thoughts and conclusions in your journal.

  9. Answer these questions • Why will the toy car and the real car eventually stop? • What force becomes strong enough and is able to stop them? • Is it Gravity, a force that attracts objects toward each other? • Or is it Friction, something that occurs when two objects rub against each other?

  10. Now, watch the following video about Friction • http://gtm-media.discoveryeducation.com/videos//images/search/b3a5e855-62e4-4a76-9440-144207d54211.jpg • Does this help answer the last question?

  11. What about Gravity? • How does it affect us? • Is there gravity on the moon? • What this video and learn how! • http://gtm-media.discoveryeducation.com/videos//images/search/061e6802-6cf9-450e-9d5e-6ee2d4103437.jpg

  12. Exit Ticket • In your journal, please answer the following: • 3. Write down 3 things you learned. • 2. Write down 2 questions you still have. • 1. Write down one thing you would like to share about today’s lesson.
