What Causes a Car to Stall while Driving

A stalling car signifies a dead engine or an engine that is not functional. It can be a scary experience. The vehicle will first lose its power steering and then its power brakes, if its engine stalls while driving. Sometimes natural disasters can make a car stall. No fuel, or improper air to fuel ratio- can affect the combustion process and lead to stalling. I would say proper aftercare of the vehicle beforehand is the best way to avoid engine stalling. Also, use the right fuel and keep the car clean- to prevent any sort of devastating experience.

  1. WHAT CAUSES A CAR TO STALL WHILE DRIVING?

  2. An internal combustion engine needs air and fuel in the ratio of 14:1 to run efficiently.

  3. Besides, timing of fuel injection as well as spark generation also affects the power output of the engine.

  4. Any kinds of major mechanical malfunctions in the ignition system or fuel injection system might cause an engine to stall in the middle of nowhere.

  5. So, the condition of the engine as well as other components associated with it needs to be inspected regularly.

  6. Signs which show that the fuel injection system is not working efficiently or ignition system has problems should not be neglected.

  7. Timely action should be taken to fix the problems in time to keep the car in working order.

  8. CAUSES OF ENGINE STALLING

  9. EMPTY FUEL TANK An engine needs continuous fuel supply to run smoothly.

  10. However, disruption of fuel supply might bring down the engine to a halt in the middle of nowhere.

  11. FAULTY FUEL PUMP Faulty fuel pump or sludge build up in the fuel line might disrupt the fuel supply to the engine.

  12. Availability of inadequate amount of fuel in the combustion chamber might be responsible for engine stalling.

  13. Besides, a clogged fuel filter might also block the flow of fuel. So, it is highly recommended to keep the fuel line and filter clean.

  14. DEAD CAR BATTERY A car battery supplies the required amount of electrical energy to the spark plug and other components of the ignition system to keep the engine running.

  15. However, a dead car battery or faults in the electrical system might disrupt the power supply to the ignition system of the car which could bring down the car to a halt.

  16. So, such problems should be repaired immediately.

  17. CLOGGED AIR FILTER As mentioned earlier, one liter of fuel needs about fourteen liters of oxygen to burn completely.

  18. However, a clogged fuel filter might adversely affect the quantity of oxygen supply to the combustion chamber which might be responsible for the engine stalling.

  19. So, efforts should be made to keep the air filter clean or replace it altogether.

  20. BOTTOM LINE

  21. A car needs routine maintenance to run smoothly without any problems.

  22. However, malfunctions in certain vital components might cause a car to stall while driving.

  23. Faults or defects responsible for such kinds of malfunctions should be repaired immediately.
