  2. Definition • The rule of thirds is when the field of view is split into three columns vertically and horizontally. The subject of the picture will be more appealing when it is where the lines intersect instead of right in the middle.

By aligning a subject with these points it creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.The main reason for observing the rule of thirds is to discourage placement of the subject at the center, or prevent a horizon from appearing to divide the picture in half.

  4. If your subject is in the middle of the image, it’s considered static. Your eye is drawn to it then has nowhere to go from there because the object is equal distance from all sides. So when your subject is positioned closer to one of the edges, it forces your eye to follow it. This allows the viewer to linger on your image longer. It makes for a more captivating photo because it’s almost interactive. Like a conversation going on between the photo and you.
