  2. Bill of Rights • The bill of Rights are the first 10 amendments of the United States Constitution. • Pushed by Patrick Henry. • Made as a protection to the powers of the federal government.

  3. First Amendment • Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion. • Freedom of RAPPS. • (religion, assembly, press, petition, speech.)

  4. Second Amendment • Right to bear arms. • A well regulated militia

  5. Third Amendment • No quartering of troops in peacetime without consent of the owner.

  6. Fourth Amendment • No illegal search and seizures. • Need a search warrant.

  7. Fifth Amendment • No double jeopardy • Miranda rights • Due process clause • Self incrimination

  8. Sixth Amendment • Right to fair and speedy trial. • Counsel. • Witnesses • No tricks!

  9. Seventh Amendment • Common law cases may be TRIAL BY JURY

  10. Eighth Amendment • No excessive bail • No excessive fines • No cruel and unusual punishment

  11. Ninth Amendment • You have more rights than what are stated in the Constitution.

  12. Tenth Amendment • Powers not given to the U.S. by the Constitution are “reserved” to the states or people.
