  3. Social contract: an agreement between the governed and the government in which the people give up rights in exchange for the government’s protection

  4. The Constitution is a body of fundamental law that sets out basic principles and structures.

  5. The Articles of Confederation was our first constitution.

  6. The framers met to write a new constitution in 1787 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

  7. The main reason for wanting to change the Articles of Confederation was to form a stronger government

  8. The framers “plagiarized” John Locke’s idea of the social contract in the Declaration & Constitution.

  9. Only 12 states were present at the Constitutional Convention… Rhode Island sent no delegates.

  10. New Jersey Plan Called for a unicameral legislature based on equality of all states

  11. Virginia Plan bicameral plan that called for representation in Congress by population and financial support

  12. Connecticut Compromise agreement that Congress would be composed of a Senate in which States were equally represented, and a House in which representation would be population based
