  1. 5/2 Bell Ringer You want to build a sandbox for your little brother. He just learned what The Pentagon is, and wants you to build his sandbox in that shape. You have 45 ft of wood. What should each side measure? You must draw a picture! P = 45ft 45 = 5S 45 / 5 = S 9ft = S Homework: Composite Perimeter Independent Practice

  2. 5/2 News and Notes • Did Mr. Chrischilles check your HW? • Perfection: 1st Period • No MVPs from last week (only 2 days), but carry over to this week! • Missing Quiz and Binder? TODAY!

  3. Quiz Make-Ups (Today RIGHT AFTER school) • 1st: Mari and LaFontae • 7th: Kaneisha, Ni’Esha, Nicole • 8th: April, Jasmin C, Cristian E, Daniel Mej, Diego, Ariana, Jasmine Z

  4. 5/2 Agenda • I CAN calculate composite perimeter when some of the sides must be discovered. • 1. Bell Ringer • 2. Intro to New Material • 3. Guided Practice – Up the River • 4. Independent Practice • 5. ACT Problem of the Day

  5. Intro to New Material 25ft • Example: Basement of house has following blueprint: • Step 1: Break up into pieces (squares, rectangles, etc.) • 2: Identify missing pieces • 3: Think vertical and horizontal to find missing pieces • 4: Add ‘em up 30ft 10ft Y 25 ft X 10ft 40ft • 30 + 25 = X + 40 • 55 = X + 40 • 15 ft = X. 10 + 25 + 10 = Y 45 ft = Y. • 25 + 30 + 10 + 25 + 45 + 40 + 10 + 15 = P • 200 ft = P

  6. Method #2 CREATE A RECTANGLE!! If you know the length and width you can find perimeter. P = 2L + 2W = 2(55) + 2(45) = 110 + 90 = 200 ft WARNING: Don’t Double Count!!! 30 25ft 10 30ft 10ft 25 ft 10 10ft 40ft

  7. Guided Practice – Partner Up • You and your partner have 2 random problems. • THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN THIS TODAY THAN JUST HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE • What are “Golden Ticket Worthy Convos”?

  8. Independent Practice • You have the rest of class to work on the independent portion of today’s class.

  9. ACT Question of the Day • What is the perimeter of the following figure: A. 29 ft B. 44 ft C. 51 ft D. 60 ft 5 ft 5 ft 2 8 ft 1 2 3 1 2 6
