Bengal Tiger • The tiger is the national animal of India • Population nearly 4000 • Poachers kill them to get their skin and bones • Tigers live and hunt alone • diet in wild: deer, wild board, water buffalo • Excellent night vision
Asiatic Elephant • Ears are smaller than african elephant’s ears • Lives in forests • Diet in wild: grass, leaves, bark and fruit • The most developed sense is smell • Hearing is acute • Eyesight is limited • Lives for about 60 years
Peacock • The national bird of india • Male birds have gorgeous tail feathers • Tail spreads out for over a metre • Habitat: hilly wooded areas, close to other animals • Very sociable, protects other animals • Diet: plants, seeds, grasses, mice, snakes
Lotus • The Lotus or the Water Lily is an aquatic plant • Grows only in shallow waters • Divided into two types red and white lotus flower • The seed, the leaf and the stem are edible and also can be used as a medicine • Symbolises fertility, wealth and knowledge
