  1. InternationalArgo Data Management Team S Pouliquen Mark Ignaszewski 8th Argo Steering Team meeting Paris 7-9 March 2007 AST8 Paris March 7-9

  2. Current Status: Active Floats by DAC Active Floats: 2 690 118 on Grey List Total Floats: 4 505 9 Dacs (+ GTS) AST8 Paris March 7-9

  3. Current Status: Real-time Distribution • 87% within 24 hours • GTS problems solved - mostly • CLS is not reporting Pressure anymore but as side effect generates some duplicates points. Should be solved soon.. • BUFR distribution to start during 2007 by JMA and MEDS. They will provide their tools to transform NetCDF into BUFR AST8 Paris March 7-9

  4. Delayed mode processing Total Profiles: over 277 000 Delayed Mode 94 176 _ AST8 Paris March 7-9

  5. Data System Developments • DMQC-2 • No major inconsistencies found • Continued improvements in methodology. Owens software to implement • Continued improvements in consistency in processing • Reduce backlog • ATW-1: November 2006 • Many problems discovered • Improve instructions to DACs • Monitor improvements to the dataset AST8 Paris March 7-9

  6. Developments for the Coming Year • Improve Consistency – across the board • Real-time QC • Reference dataset to be used by all DACs was sent end November 2006 • Results received from CSIO, BDC, CLS, Incois, Coriolis, CSIRO. AOML is planned end March. No Results from JMA, Korea and MEDS • A lot of discussion on the density test • A report will be issued when all results are provided by DACs _ AST8 Paris March 7-9

  7. Developments for the Coming Year • Expanded consistency checks at GDACs • Implement recommendations of DMQC-2 and ATW-1 • Expand checks on contents of all files • GDAC synchronization • Implement CRC checks • Improve monitoring and reporting • Actions not progressed much on both GDACs ( Man power problem …) • User problem reporting / feedback : we have to implement a real user desk! _ AST8 Paris March 7-9

  8. Developments for the Coming Year • Real-time salinity drift adjustment • Persistence from last DM offset computed from the deep profile • JMA end April • Meds done • AOML : done in RT, ( past profiles not DM qced not corrected) • Coriolis : SOON probably April • INCOIS: August • CSIRO: want to do additional test to verify against CDT correction applied at present in RT • BODC :?? • CSIO: ?? • Korea: Not Much DM data yet AST8 Paris March 7-9

  9. Reference DB for Argo • Decision on how to progress : • Provide visibility on what exists • Coordinate with NODCs and CCHDO: action at next IODE meeting • Develop procedures for yearly updates • End 2006: Provide a WWW page at GDAC that provide links to the different Regional Reference Databases: http://www.coriolis.eu.org/cdc/argo_rfc.htm • June 2007: all DB for OW software WOD2005 upgrade • JAMSTEC to make available the SeHYD and IOBH DB for OW • WHOI to provide Hydrobase ATL for OW • Coriolis to update WOD2001 with WOD2005 and CCHDO and RDAC data taking into account the DMQC2 recommendations • CCHDO & NODC/USA to collaborate in order for CCHDO to provide complete CTD updates to Argo • ADMT8 Put in place a yearly update with CCHDO /NODC updtaes • Coriolis to set up the updating procedure to integrate CCHDO input on a yearly basis AST8 Paris March 7-9

  10. Developments for the Coming Year • Argo Regional Centers • Developing at very different rates • There is a need to coordinate activities of ARCs ( ARC meeting prior to ADMT meeting under discussion) • Lack of scientific man power on the Data consistency issue which is not as trivial as expected • Actions are progressing less rapidly that it used to be/ Does it show a Man power problem at Dacs to handle these 3000 floats … AST8 Paris March 7-9

  11. Issues for the AST • Pressure offset correction: what about correction of PRES parameter in RT as DM workshop recommended to do it only in delayed mode • How to interact with the Godae-QC pilot project coordinated by Jim Cummings • What about O2 parameter QC ? • Who will study the impact of using Argo floats in the reference DB as DM workshop recommended not to do it and has not planned any action on this issue • Glider data and Argo : can we provide guidelines for format so that it’s easy to use these data together with Argo data. AST8 Paris March 7-9
