  1. I-DEAS Team Data Management Basics

  2. EVERY user of I-DEAS uses the I-DEAS Data Management (IDM) • There are approx. 150,000 users of I-DEAS, in approx. 15,000 customers around the world. Therefore ……. IDM is the most widely used data management system in the world !

  3. What is it we Manage ? • Parts • Assemblies • Drawings • NC Jobs • FE Models

  10. What are the Benefits of using Libraries ? • Sharing of data using libraries enables Concurrent Engineering and Team Work procedures to be used. • The ability to manage versions of the product data. Assemblies understanding what version of the parts are used, specific or latest. Libraries, and why do we need to use them ? • Publish and store permanent of parts, assemblies and drawings. • Let other users reference the parts, assemblies and drawings. • Manage versions of the parts, assemblies and drawings. • Optional associativity can be maintained between different applications

Life Cycle States are defined. • Access rights are assigned. This defines, • Who has access to what and when in the project’s life.

  18. Scope of I-DEAS Data Manager • It is not :- • Does not require min $20K startup, plus per user license fees. • General purpose Enterprise PDM system. • Designed to manage non-I-DEAS data. • Does not require extensive installation. • Does not require extensive and multi-phase customization to do basic functionality. • Something that can be optionally used by the user. • A “write over” system, where change is not tracked or managed. • Does not require the user to “save-as” to maintain versions or revisions. • Does not require a full time, expert person to maintain the system.

  19. Scope of I-DEAS Data Manager • It is :- • Available to all users free of charge. • Used by approx. 150,000 I-DEAS Master Series users across 15,000 customers. Most widely used data management system in the world. • Developed for small to medium sized companies (2-50 users) • Is embedded in I-DEAS. The users can not turn it off. • Automatically manages item Versions. • Automatically installed during software installation. • Requires no customization. Works “out of the box”. • Can be customized to suit customers requirements.

  20. Summary • The most widely used CAD/CAM/CAE data manager in the world. • Manages I-DEAS design, simulation and manufacturing data. • Aimed at the small to medium installation (2-50 users). • Works “out of the box”. • Does not require dedicated training and support.
