  1. PARENTS’ INFORMATION MEETING – KS2 SATSWednesday 9th April 2014

  2. Outline of the meeting: • What are SATS? • When will my child take their SAT tests? • What happens after the SATS? • How are school preparing my child for the SATS? • What can I do to help? • Any questions?

SATS • These are NATIONAL TESTS (Standard Assessment Tests), which all children at the age of 10/11 will take in May. • Each child in England will complete the same test. • The maths papers, the reading paper and the spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and grammar test are all externally marked.

  4. The timetable will be as follows:

  5. Level 6 • Level 6 Tests take place on an afternoon.

What happens after the SATS? • The tests are sent off to be marked by an external examiner. • The results will be returned to school at the beginning of July. • Your child will receive a maths level, a reading level and a writing level. • The writing level will be based on teacher assessment, however, this year we will be moderating children’s writing with a moderator from the local authority. • The results will be shared with your child’s chosen secondary school

What happens after the SATS? • National Curriculum Levels are awarded as follows: • Level 2 = well below the expected level • Level 3 = below the expected level • Level 4 = the expected level for eleven year olds • Level 5 = above the expected level • Level 6 = well above the expected level • A score of just over half the available marks will usually achieve a level 4.

What school are doing to help your child • Revision sessions have been taking place with Miss Miller, Miss Pollard, Mrs Moxon and Mrs Cooper. • Some Children have received one to one tuition • Homework has been related to the SATS • Most lessons have focused on how to answer SAT questions • The children are going to be provided with an Easter revision pack, which I will now explain!

  9. What can I do to help my child? • Make sure that the children get plenty of sleep. • Encourage the children to complete the test papers in their Easter packs • The biggest single influence on your child’s SAT marks will be their reading ability. Good readers can read questions quickly, and understand what they need to do. Continue to encourage your child to read every day, looking at both stories and non-fiction.
