  14. Reflecting on Experiences Successes Challenges Tight schedule – difficulty of managers to accomplish assignments Definition of roles between the collaborating partners Unbalanced participation from different companies; 7 of 14 participants from one company Commitment and business targets for the programme from the participating companies is needed • Agility in taking up the initiative from the local companies • Collaboration between three universities • Collaboration of participants from different cultures • Contacts in St.Petersburg for the companies • Excitement and enthusiasm of all parties involved

  15. Particpants– thiswasgreat • 3 universities: different kinds of atmosphere, methods of teaching, even exotic, possibility to experience all these different places • Multilingual and –cultural group • Great group spirit • Some teachers were very good • The company visits, where the management truly talked about the strategy, were fruitful • Cross functional participants even if from the same company: taking time to discuss • A chance to reflect upon own experiences in cultural differences • Practical arrangements were done in a superb manner by PBC and Irina Sarno • Some very useful and interesting articles included in the post- and pre-readings • A possibility to work towards a MBA degree, • Scroll-reading skills were developed a lot • The strategic content in the programme was particularly useful • The course work, even as time consuming, was beneficial • All work related pre- and post assignments were particularly beneficial

  16. Reflecting and writing feedback just beforegraduation Tampere 20.3.2011

  17. Participants – to be developed • Prepare company visits so that the hosts concentrate on particular aspects of management issues • Develop a criteria for enrolling the programme: • language skills at good level • motivation to complete the programme • professional and management level high enough • max. 4 participants from one company • Stick and carrot for the process: monitor the progress of students and don’t allow them to continue if assignments are not completed • Create one main idea for the whole programme and communicate it clearly • Communicate clearly the time that is needed to complete the programme, open the concept of credit units • In collaboration with the participating companies, set business targets and ensure link between the business and academic approach in each module • Cooperation of three universities is a great advantage, but students sometimes felt the mixture of responsibilities and confusion: perhaps more clear division of responsibilities and focus • Focus the modules subject by subject • Have the same structure to each module: goal setting, wrapping up-summary and conclusions, same amount of pre-and post assignments • Standard of teaching should be kept high • Make sure that you have people from different companies or focus on one company only • Moodle is great but somewhat old fashioned learning platform

  18. Summary • Six out of fifteen students graduated • Students perceived the programme useful in their work in international management • Universitieswereable to identifypersons with expertise and interest in differentaspects of Russian business • Discussions and plans on continuing: • Nottbeckprogramme II • Master’s programme to continue • Marketing the programme to bothFinnish and Russian companies
