BRATISLAVA - our capital city, the seat of the President Zuzana Čaputová -full of monuments f. e. Bratislava Castle,the Blue church etc -industrial and financial centre, close to borders, -on the river Danube
Landscape Our country is beautiful in every season. Landscape is predominantly mountainous with some lowlands on the south and west. It is full of caves, lakes, high peaks, deep valleys and gorgeous nature. Something for everybody. You won ´t believe but although we are not close to real sea, we have made one. It is called the Slovak SEA and it´s a dam covering 33km², a popular holiday resort. Have a look!
Slovakia - a castle superpower Our country has got a nickname "little big country" because of its size and the fact that has many things to offer. We have more than 220 castles and castle ruines plus more than 450 chateaus of different size, shape and condition. Maybe you do not find a country with so many castles as Slovakia. Some of them are on the UNESCO list, some not. Fairy tales, romantic films, even horrors were made here. Have you heard about Nosferatu, princess Fantaghiro, Dragon´s heart? They have one thing in common - they were made in Slovakia.

Folk architecture Folk tradition has rooted strongly in Slovakia and is reflected in literature, music, dance and architecture. There are open-air museums devoted to folk traditions. The 1st folk architecture reserve in the world was founded in 1977 in Čičmany, a village close to our town Žilina. The houses are covered with typical white ornaments. You can see the way of life at the begginning of the 20th century, folk clothes and customs, rare embroidery, tools and so on.
Wooden churches of the Carpathian Mountain Area They have been on the list of Unesco World Heritage sites since 2008 and they have worldwide value. Churches in Hervarthov, Bodružal, Hronsek,Ladomirova and others are made of wood. All of them are built with NO nails or iron. Their interior and furniture are special with a unique Carpathian icons. They belong to the oldest sacral buildings in Slovakia.
CAVES The territory of Slovakia is rich in cave spaces. There are a respectable number of them in its relatively small area. The underground spaces of caves were created over millions of years by the action of water, stone and air. Let´s present some of them... Herlany geyser It is a precious cold geyser and a part of our national heritage. It is active since 1872 and it was the only one cold geyser in Europe. It gushes water up to 22m height and the eruption takes 25 minutes after every 34- 36 hours. Water is full of minerals. Slovakia has many mineral springs and spas.
Slovak "the top" in the world This title means that you cannot find it anywhere but Slovakia. They are unique within the world. Because there are plenty of them I chose some of them: The highest gothic wooden altar Master Pavol of Levoča carved it and it took him 10 years.

Tinker or tinsmith This is one of the oldest craft. Many men in the past used tin to mend and produce different things. You must be very skilled to manage this craft. Nowadays just a few people can do it, that´s why it is almost extinct.
