  1. Ba Town Council Population The population of the Ba Town is about 15,000 people with total area of 488 hectares and has 1232 rateable properties. Ba Town has five wards – namely:-- Central Varadoli Rarawai Yalalevu Namosau

  2. Establishment • Town was settled in 1864 and in 1886 the Rarawai sugar mill was establishment. • In 1905 Ba Rural Local Authority was established under the Public Health Act Ordinance. • Ba was proclaimed as township under the township ordinance in 1939.

  3. Vision • A muti-cultural population living in peace and harmony based on industry, respect for the right of others and the rule of law. • A municipal government that is transparent, accountable and involves its elaborates and constituencies in municipal execution. • A healthily and clean urban environment sustained by quality municipal health and planning services and amenities.

  4. Rubbish dump • The Ba Rubbish dump was established on April, 1984. • The area of the dump is 7.9 acres that is 3.2046 hectares • Collection days in all 5 wards are three(3) per week i.e. Monday, Wednesday and Friday

  5. Mission • To promote health, welfare and convenience of the inhabitants of the municipality and to preserve the amenties and credit.

  6. Economy • The sugar industry is the dominant activity in Ba Town. The importance of the sugar industry in the life of Ba District may be gauged by the level of activity in Ba Town itself, which comes alive on the pay day of the cane harvesting season.

  7. Rubbish Dump • The Ba Rubbish Dump wasa establishmed on 1st April, 1984 • Area of the Dump is 3,2046 (7.9 Acres) • Collection days in the all 5 wards are 3 days per weeks i.e. Monday, Wednesday and Friday with about 3000 bins • However, the collection of the of the market rubbish is done on daily basis • Household rubbish,green waste and industrial waste are dumped separately.

  8. Cont. • Distance form the Council to the Rubbish Dump is 4km. • The dumpling method is semi—crude i.e. the rubbish is pushed one side and covered with soil after couple of weeks. • The rubbish dump is kept under lock and key. • Dump attendant is usually present on dumping days.

  9. Expenditure • Maintenance of Rubbish dump $9,085 pa • Contractor’s Payments $50,300pa • Dump Attendant $6,000pa • Income • 2006 $2,663.00
