  1. Host Trust Arrangements Audiology Students Rebecca Kopecek, Head of Employee Resourcing Rebecca.Kopecek@porthosp.nhs.uk

  2. Commissioned by the SHA to undertake the role of Host Trust Built up a relationship with Southampton University to provide them with specialist HR advice in relation to the employment of the Audiology Students. This includes providing advice on the suitability of an Audiology Student if asked e.g. would the student be deemed suitable for employment in the NHS

  3. Employment Responsibilities of PHT: • Employing Trust of all the Audiology Students on their placement year • Ensure all students are properly recruited as per current NHS Policy: • Two references • CRB Check • Occupational Health Clearance • Issue a Contract of Employment in line with AfC

  4. PHT provides HR advice to the students regarding there employment PHT undertakes the payroll administration of the students Maintenance of files Administration of changes to employment e.g. maternity leave Advice to Southampton University in relation to employment matters e.g. paternity leave

  5. Placement provider responsibilities (in terms of employment): Provision of an honary contract Return to PHT of the students attendance record to enable correct payment Notification of any employment issue to Southampton University who will liaise with PHT as necessary Provision of mandatory and statutory training Access to the placement providers Occupational Health Department

  6. Progress to Date: From PHT perspective has been fairly successful to date and we feel we have built up a good relationship with Southampton University in the provision of this service. All students have managed to be processed appropriately. More this year with a few occupational health issues but all have been cleared. One serious performance issue which is in the process of being resolved but does show the necessity of all parties being involved.

  7. Learning to date: As PHT are the employing Trust, only PHT has the sanction to undertake any disciplinary or grievance procedures. Therefore it is important that a placement provider remembers this when dealing with any student issues.
