Article Two: President-Executive Branch • 1. President • 4 year terms • Can only have 2 terms • Exception: If you “sub” for 2 years or less, you can have 2 elections. You COULD have a grand total of 10 years. • Example: JKF assassinated and Johnson(VP) takes over (new president). Johnson was elected for 4 years after “subbing”, but he then decided not to run for again for a 2nd time. • 2. President Qualifications • Has to be born in U.S. • 35 years old • Lived for 14 years in U.S.
President • 3. Death of President • Act of Congress 1947: • If the President dies, the VP becomes president • If the VP dies, the speaker is next in line • If the speaker dies, then the President Pro Temp of Senate is next in line. • Each cabinet member is next (sect. of state). • THEN congress votes and chooses someone. • 25th Amendment: New president selects his VP, BUT congress has to have a majority vote to approve the new VP
