  1. Ask Jesus Not To Lead Us Into Temptation And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen Matthew 6:13 July 19, 2009 Rev. David B. Hanson

  2. Two Well-Known Temptations • The Fall of Adam and Eve • Genesis 3:1-7 • The subtle serpent • The knowledge of good and evil • The fall • The Temptation of Jesus • Matthew 4:1-11 • Fast for 40 days • Command the stones to become bread • Jump from the pinnacle of the temple and expect God’s angel to deliver • Rule the world and worship the Devil

  3. The Difference Between Trial and Temptation • A Trial • Strengthen the person’s faith. • Transform the person’s weakness into the strength by depending on God in a deeper way. • I Peter 1:7 • That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ; • A Temptation • A strategy of the devil to draw us to do evil. • An aim of the devil to destroy us. • I Corinthians 10:13 • There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

  4. The Purposes of the Temptation • To draw you away from God • To thwart God’s purpose for your life • To deny the glory of God in your life • To destroy you in any way

  5. Joseph’s Escape From the Temptation • Genesis 39:1-23 • “There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? • Genesis 39:9

  6. Spiritual Advice for the Believers • I Peter 5:8 • Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: • James 4:7-8 • Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. • Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
