  1. Bell work: Write three techniques you used to study for the last test. How long did you spend studying? *You do not have to write the prompt * Do this on a blank sheet of notebook paper and turn it in to the basket (don’t forget to put your name on it)

  2. How to be successful in biology

  3. Projects/ Lab Reports • Make sure you follow the rubric • Use all of the tools that you were given: • PowerPoint • Sample Ms. Sigmon uploaded to her webpage • Rubric • Previous lab • FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS

  4. Studying for Biology • Make flashcards as we go over new terms • What does a good flashcard look like?

  5. Studying for Biology • Take 10 minutes EVERY night to go over what we talked about in class • If you don’t understand something: • See Ms. Sigmon • Read it in your text book • Use Google and YouTube to find other sources to explain it in a different way • Ask your peers

  6. Studying for Biology • Recopy your notes as many times as it takes you to remember them • Typing notes is good too but you will retain more if you write them • Study vocabulary every day! • Put all of the distractions away while studying (Twitter, SnapChat, Texting, Facebook, Instagram… etc.)

  7. Ways to take notes • Draw a line down on one side of the page and leave that space blank when you are taking notes in class • Go back after class and write in the margin you’ve drawn ways to remember the material or questions that you have • Draw Diagrams to help you remember things

  8. Ways to Take Notes • Use different colors to help you see the important things • Make important words BOLD

  9. Test Taking Strategies • Keep a positive attitude and try to stay relaxed • Do the easiest problems first • Read the ENTIRE question and pay attention to the details • Underline important words in the question • Use the test to help you take the test • Meaning if there is a multiple choice section and a fill in the blank section… use the multiple choice to serve as a word bank for the fill in the blank

  10. Test Taking Strategies • Don’t stress about being the first or the last one done with a test • Look over the test before you turn it in • Don’t change answers unless you misread the question or prompt… go with your gut • If you don’t understand what the question is asking… ask Ms. Sigmon!
