  1. Development of inexpensive prosthetic feet for high-heeled shoes using simple shoe insole model Margrit R. Meier, PhD; Kerice A. Tucker, BSc; Andrew H. Hansen, PhD

  2. Aim • Develop model that allows prediction of insole shape for various heel height shoes combined with different shoe sizes. • Develop and field-test low-cost prototypes of prosthetic feet whose insole shapes were based on the new model. • Relevance • Most prosthetic feet are for low-heeled shoes (<5 cm). • American Podiatric Medical Association survey indicates most women wear heels >5 cm. • Prosthetic foot plantar surface shapes don’t change to match insole shapes of shoes with different heel heights.

  3. Method • Developed equation to calculate insole shapes independent of shoe size.

  4. Results • Field testing of prototype prosthetic feet fabricated based on equation was successful. 3 marker system used to measure roll-over shape of Shape&Roll Talon.

  5. Conclusion • Prosthetic feet fabricated demonstrated utility of equation.
