The hall clearance has been completed to revisit the water and cryo plant, preparing for shutdown '04. Progress includes beam tube manufacture, negotiations for hole cutting, and RF support discussions. Technical advancements such as adopting change control processes, MICE design revisions, and absorber reviews have been made. Tasks planned for December 9-10 and future years entail system design and building contracts. Accelerator upgrades, beam line evaluations, and testing assemblies are in progress, aiming to enhance performance and resolution rates for the MICE project.

Beam & Infrastructure • Hall clearance completed • Revisiting Water & Cryo Plant • Prepare for shutdown ’04 • beam tube • Contract hole cutting • Negotiating with DF to help target work along at Sheffield • Discussion with ASTeC on RF Support
MICE • Technical Board meeting • Adopted change control – process in place • Plan to revise MICE design for March CB • This is also the timescale to complete the WBS (ISIS Shutdowns!) • WBS • All parts now represented except slow controls and instrumentation • Negotiations…. Interfaces… • Absorber review • December 9-10
Tasks to end 2003 • Manufacture beam tube • R&D on absorber window (welding samples) • Continue Cryogenic & Hydrogen System design (absorber) – establish heat load • Complete Beam Line performance evaluation
Plans for 2004/5 • Cut into synchrotron vault ◄ • Bring PSI Solenoid to RAL ◄ • Assembly of an RF Test Stand ◄ • Engineering design of beam line • Engineering of Target Mechanism • Design MICE support structure • Complete water & Cryo. plant design • Begin building design (contract) • Start building work (contract)
Light yield 4-5 pe • Expectation ~10 • Systematic analysis in hand • Simulation updated to include more realistic models of inefficiency, noise etc. • Reconstruction of simulated data shows adequate performance • Outstanding issue: resolution (MCS dominated) needs to be shown to give adequate resolution in emittance • MICE adopted SciFi detector as baseline tracker … will be used subject to satisfactory resolution of above
