Agenda • Energy efficiency and Variable Speed Drives (VSD) • New prescriptive VSD incentive application for : • Chillers • Fans • Pumps • Air Compressors • Ineligible measures • Q & A
Energy Efficiency and VSD • How can a VSD improve energy efficiency? • How is the VSD controlled?
Now Prescriptive – VSDs on: • Fan or pump motors, 200 HP or less: $60 per HP • Chillers, $25 per HP • Air compressors<100 HP, $100 per HP
Up to 100 HP 101 HP to 200 HP Over 200 HP Custom Application

Specifications • Existing throttling devices such as inlet vanes, bypass dampers, and throttling valves must be permanently removed or disabled. • VSD must be installed with automatic control technology.
Not Eligible for Incentives • VSDs installed on equipment that operates less than 1,200 hours per year • Replacements of existing VSDs • VSDs installed on redundant/backup motors • VSDs installed in place of multi-speed flow control equipment (such as two-speed cooling tower fans) • VSDs installed in place of variable pitch blade flow control equipment • VSDs installed for the purpose of “soft-starting” motors • VSDs installed on pumps where affinity laws are not in effect, such as positive displacement pumps
