  3. Situation • Notification to hold an eDay event received early August 2010 – date suggested for eDay – 6 September 2010 • No prior knowledge of eDay • No budget • No experience • No plan • No local information Question – WHY??

  4. WHY pursue the eDay event Ewaste is a big problem in the Cook Islands eDay NZ, SPC and SPREP guaranteed support

  5. What did we do • Meeting of stakeholders • Identified key stakeholders • Identified key responsibilities • Identified possible sponsors • Continuously consulted the NZ eDay guidebook and website www.eday.org.nz

  6. What happened • Slow progress • Lack of coordination • Lack of focus or direction • No decisions • Interest but no commitment

  7. What we ended up doing • Formed a small working group or committee consisting of 4 main people • Shared the responsibilities originally confirmed with other stakeholders among ourselves • Confirmed the venue • Confirmed the date for eDay • Confirmed and worked closely with major sponsors • Managed all eDay finances • Established a centralized email system for all of us so we can keep track of the different developments • Completed all regulatory arrangements with the responsible agencies in NZ • Coordinated the responsibilities for volunteers on the day • Prepared survey and statistical forms for the day • etc, etc
