  3. Skydiving: What is it? • An extreme sport • Jump out of planes • Brief freefall followed by parachute • Free fall is fast and effective • Many perform acrobatics • Becoming very popular

Skydiving Equipment • Jump out of a plane at high speeds • Wind resistance means you need special gear. • This includes: • Parachute: float to the ground • Jumpsuit: for streamline shape • Altimeter: measures altitude • Helmet & goggles: protect your face and eyes • AAD: automatically deploys parachute if too close • Close to ground activate parachute manually

  5. How was it created? • Started in 1797 • Andre Jacque jumped out hot air balloon first • Sport didn’t officially start until after WWII • Soldiers found it a unique form of entertainment • Used extra parachutes from WWII • Men in WWII told others about the sport

  6. What does it feel like to go Skydiving? • Neither being pushed or pulled • Like sticking body out of car on highway • Same feeling as rollercoaster drop • Going fast at 120mph • Able to change movement patterns • Can go horizontally or vertically slower or faster

  7. How Popular is Skydiving? • About 350 000 people skydive a year • From these people, 3 000 000 jumps were made • Still becoming increasingly popular • Of these 350 000 people unfortunately 60 people have died this year worldwide

  8. Popular Skydiving Locations? • Rural areas • Beautiful mountains, rivers and valleys • Places with beautiful aerial views • Australia popular skydiving country • Tirol, small town in Australia popular destination
