Week 1: When Charlie McButton Lost Power • How do syllables help me read words I don’t know? • What can we learn by trying new things? • How do I determine the meaning of words that sound the same (homonyms)? • Why would an author use rhyme and rhythm in a story? • How do characters, setting, and plot help a story make sense?

  3. Week 2: What about me? • What happens to a word when you make it plural? • What can we learn by trading with one another? • Why is sequence important to understand a story? • How can summarizing what you read help you? • How can we determine the central theme, or lesson of a story?

  4. Week 3: Kumak’s fish • How do word endings affect the meaning? • How can we achieve goals? • How can visualizing help us as we read? • What strategies can we use to figure out unknown words or phrases in text?

  5. Week 4: supermarket • What sounds do you get when you put vowels together? • How can we get what we want and need? • How can we compare and contrast story elements (characters, setting, plot)? • How do I determine the meaning of words that look and sound the same (homophones)?

  6. Week 5: my rows and piles of coins • What sounds do you get when you put vowels together? • What do we need to know about saving and spending? • How can we determine the author’s purpose and viewpoint? • How can understanding prefixes and suffixes make us better readers?
