  2. GSM Subscriber Base • GSM mobile technology is at its maturity. The operators in developing countries like India and China are experiencing phenomenal growth in subscriber base every year. • A growth of around 75% every year in GSM subscriber base is taking place in India. • Rural parts of developing countries still need to come under mobile coverage. This would further boost revenues for GSM operators. Services specific to rural population still need to be envisioned and developed.

  3. Growth in Telecom Equipment Market • Telecom Equipment manufacturers are seeing growth at a rate of 25%. • Cheap equipments allow consumers more choice. People may even setup wireless networks in home now. • Wireless and Broadband infrastructure seeing rapid growth. • Total revenues generated last year in range of Rs.100,000 Crores

  4. 3G Mobile Services • 3G Mobile Services would give rise to a larger subscriber base. These services include: • High Speed Internet access through Mobile handsets • Video Telephony • Increased capacity, Mobile operator may serve more users as compared to GSM networks • Convergence between Voice and packet services is giving rise to new innovative services

  5. Broadband services • Broadband services are reaching every home. Bandwidth is becoming cheaper and more subscribers are opting for broadband access every year. • Penetration to rural areas is very low. There is still a huge scope of growth in rural areas. • Wireless broadband internet is still in early phase in developing countries. • Introduction of NGN architecture in modern networks allows speech and multimedia services to be implemented over broadband infrastructure.

Voice over Internet (VoIP) • Internet is the cheapest transmission medium with widest reach • Maintenance and operational cost for internet is very low • Transmission of voice over internet lowers cost for telecom operators • Voice over Internet is still in nascent phase and expected to grow manifold in coming years
