  1. Fairy Tale Unit Jessica McFarland Genre Unit

  2. Day one: Introduction • Introduce the unit to students and talk about what they know about Fairy tales. • Make a list of fairy tales that they know and have seen or read.

  3. Day 2: Reading Read a fairy tale to the students and then review after the story is over. Then the teacher will have the students write down the setting, characters and plot.

  4. Day 3 and 4 • Students will make a chart of similarities and differences and as they watch the movies from another culture students should write down what they think are the differences and similarities of the movie. • Day 4: students should continue their chart until the movie is over. • The students should compare their notes with others at their desks and then as a whole class and teacher makes notes.

  5. Teacher will show the class how to brainstorm ideas and write them down. • Teacher should do an example with the class: have them come up with the characters etc. Day 5 Brainstorming fairy tale story ideas.

  6. Day 6 • Once students are done with their brainstorming and the teacher gives them the ok, then they are to start writing their stories. • Students will need to complete at home and at school and proof read and make corrections so teacher can publish.
