Background • What needed to be achieved? • Up to 80 project staff to train – limited budget • Review of Project Management standards • Development of hard copy & online guidance • What was achieved? • Distance learning solutions through Teignbridge • Supported workshop sessions • Tailored Project Management Guide • Backing from the Chief Executive

How did we do it? • Identify people who need training • Batches of 8 people through e-learning • “Kick-off” workshops • Online Foundation exams • Define “level1/level2” projects Level 1Level 2 • Cost/Value:Up to £100,000 £100,000 - £5,000,000 • Effort:Up to 75 days 50+ days • Timescale:Up to 6 months 6-24 months elapsed • Risk Level:Low – Medium Low, Medium, High • Approach:Single Service Single & Multi Service Internal DevelopmentInternal/External development

Controls applied for Level 1 • Level 1 Projects • Minimum of 4 End Stage Assessments • ESAs relating to OGC Gateway Review Process • Other meetings can usually be short and informal • Project level plan mandatory • Stage level plan if required • The Project Board should have a minimum of 2 people • Communication will be carried out on an informal basis • Use of an Issue Log to capture project issues • Medium-high risks to be escalated informally to the Board www.spoce.com/interactive

Controls applied for Level 2 • Level 2 Projects • Minimum of 5 End Stage Assessments relating to OGC Gateway • Signed authorisation from the Project Board • Project & Stage level plans mandatory • Product Descriptions to be used for all levels of plan • Minimum 2 – maximum 7 people on each Project Board • External Supplier may take a Senior Supplier role • Independent Project Assurance to be considered • Internal & external resources if required • Significant dialogue to be recorded in a Daily Log • Project Assurance to assure standards • Use of Project Issue Management from the Techniques Guide • Formal escalation where necessary to the Project Board (incl. risks) www.spoce.com/interactive
