Career Education • Education: • 4 year Degree in Photojournalism • Top Schools: Boston University, RIT, and Corcoran College • Portfolio: • A strong portfolio is the most important asset to getting work in photojournalism. • Potential employers look at your portfolio, and if it’s bad it doesn’t matter how much education you have.

  4. Career Availability • Job Availability: • There are no set amount of jobs in this field. Many photojournalists are freelance.

  5. Statistics • Statistics: • Median annual wage $30,000. • 152,000 current employed as photographers. • Projected employment in 2018 is 169,000. • Photojournalists can work for newspapers, magazines, or can work freelance and sell their images.

  6. Famous Photographers • James Nachtwey • Has traveled to many third world countries and documented their issues.

Career Logistics • Photojournalists are responsible for providing clear, high quality, truthful images, that communicate a meaningful message to their viewers. • Schedule: • Freelance photographers get to make their own hours. • Photographers that work for a company will typically work a 40 hour work week.

  9. Personal Reaction • I personally like this career because of the situations you are put in and the traveling you get to do. • The career still does appeal to me. • I’d change the amount of money photographers make, it would be great if they made more.
