  1. Division SLO/SAO Activities 2013 Flex Day January 25, 2013

  2. Welcome!*Please note, the term SLO’s in these activities refer to both Student Services Outcomes and Instructional Student Learning Outcomes. This workshop will allow you to: • Review/revise current SLO’s (with use of SLO Toolkit) • Review/revise current identified Assessments (with use of Backwards Design Model) • Record Assessment Result implementation and outcomes • Connect course/program SLO’s to Institutional SLO’s

  3. Supplies Provided To YOU! • Access to SLO’s by Division • SLO Tool Kit • Backwards Design Model Template • Evidence of Assessment Implementation Form • Connecting SLO to ILO Form • Donkey • Tails • Color Coded Stickers • Jump Drive (to save online documents) • Pens • Scissors

  4. Let’s Get Started! Where are my SLO’s?? For Divisions who have achieved Program Review approvals, you should have a hard copy of all of your department/program SLO’s (Congrats!) For Divisions who do not have a hard copy of SLO’s, please click here, choose the department and scroll to the ‘Assessment Plan and Report’ section. http://www.missioncollege.edu/inside_mission/committees/program_review/documents/index.php?dir=PR_Completed_Forms/

  5. What do I do Now? Get into workgroups according to department/service • Pose the following questions: • Are your SLO’s adequate? If yes, go to next question. If no, obtain a printed or online SLO Tool Kit to develop/revise your SLO’s. • Are your Assessment Measures adequate? If yes, go to the next question. If no, obtain a printed or online Backwards Model Template. • Have you recorded Assessment Result Implementation as well as provided evidence? If you answered NO to the questions above, START HERE and obtain a printed or online Evidence of Assessment Form. *All handouts are available online at: http://slosao.wikispaces.com/

Workgroups Activities Depending on how you answered the questions, you should be working your way through the following steps: • STEP 1: Review/revise current SLO’s (with use of SLO Toolkit) • STEP 2: Review/revise current identified Assessments (with use of Backwards Design Model) • STEP 3: Record Assessment Result implementation and outcomes on the ‘Evidence of Assessment’ Form (Due March 8th for ACCJC)

  7. I’m done with STEPS 1 – 3, What Now? Congrats! Take a quick 10 min. bathroom break! After reconvening, return to your workgroups and work on STEP 4: CONNECTING SLO’S TO ILO’S

  8. ILO’S (Institutional Learning Outcomes) Pin the tail on the Donkey Activity! • Locate your large Donkey. • Obtain a printout of tails. Choose one course/service and write course/service outcomes on tails (one per tail). Use the colored dot stickers to connect the ‘SLO’ tail to the appropriate ‘ILO’. *Note: The colored dot stickers correspond to ILO’s as follows: Pink: A. Communication and Information Competency: The student will demonstrate the ability to acquire, evaluate, send and receive information in a variety of modes including written, spoken, scientific, and mathematical language. Green: B. Critical Thinking: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the methods by which information may be investigated, analyzed, synthesized, and utilized. The student will be able to apply this knowledge to creatively solve problems and develop new theories. Blue: C. Personal Development:Students will respect and work with diverse people including those with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds and different abilities. Students will demonstrate an understanding of ethical issues and the development of personal values that will enhance their capacity for working with others.

  9. Connecting SLO’s to ILO’s For remaining Courses & Services, complete the onlineSLO to ILO form (Due April 13th for ACCJC):
