  3. Disadvantages HAWTs- • Height required to move large blades disrupts landscape • Blades and assembly suffers stress from turbulence. (Caused when blade is in wind shadow) • Require additional parts to maneuver blades toward wind • Require a braking device to prevent excessive winds from damaging the turbine.

  4. Disadvantages cont. VAWTs- • Decreased effiencieny compared to HAWTs. • Wind speed is reduced closer to ground. • Not commonly deployed, seen as “novel”.

  5. Constraints • - Wind speed/direction • Maintenance • Fatigue • Rotor nonlinear

  6. Goals • Understand and design turbine • to maximize Betz Limit - Combine idea of venturi tube between buildings • Compare wind turbine efficiency
