Globalization • Brazil’s exports of minerals to China has increased by 52.5% from 1999-2003 • Wood from the rainforest include mahogany, which is used for furniture in countries like the US and UK • Many foreign companies includes United States and German companies (Ford and Volkswagen) These factories in Brazil provide employment for many people

  3. Global Connections The presidents of Brazil and China met in 2006 and pledged to continue their trade partnership 2. The exports of wood has caused damage to the rainforest 3. Several of the top car companies are located in Brazil, which is the sixth largest producer of automobiles, thus providing lots of jobs for Brazilian families.

  4. Global Issue • Cutting down trees to manufacture products has caused deforestation and considerable amount of damage to the rainforest

  5. Global Conflict • Due to deforestation there is a Loss of bio-diversity, soil erosion, soil fertility and traditional culture

  6. Global Action • Brazil is re-growing tropical rainforests in effort to comply with REDD and reducing emissions from manufacturing products
