  2. intro • Brazil has a coastline of over 4655 miles • It is a country in South America • The fifth largest country by area • Population of 146 million • Brazil is a democratic country

Business Greetings • Shake hands for hello and goodbye • Handshaking for a long time is common • make sure to shake everyone's hand before leaving • Use good eye contact • When women meet they exchange kisses by putting their cheeks together and kissing the air • Touching arms and elbows and backs are common

  4. Business Dress • Conservative attire for women in business is very important. Also make sure your nails are manicured • The Brazilian flag is yellow and green so avoid wearing this combination

  5. Business Cards • Exchanged during introductions • Given to everyone at the meeting • Appropriate to have the business card in both English and Portuguese • Hand it with the letters facing up

  6. Business Introductions • Men are called(“o senhor”), and women are called (“o senhora”) • The women are introduced first • The women extend their hand first • Women kiss cheeks starting from left to right • Men shake hands with everyone

  7. Table Manners • Do not eat with your hands, cut with your fork, speak while chewing, or drink from the bottle • Most meals finish with coffee • Make compliments to the cook when done eating • The bill is paid by one person or evenly divided by the group • Tipping is 10 percent of the bill
