  2. Characters • Lizzie Bright-Lizzie was very open-minded , adventurous and nice. She was also African American and lived on Malaga Island. • Turner Buckminster-Turner was the minister’s son which meant he was watched every second and had to have very good manners. • Mrs. Hurd-Mrs.Hurd was an older friend of Turners and is very friendly. • Mrs. Cobb-Mrs Cobb was an old lady that seemed very mean but was nice by the end. • My favorite character was Lizzie Bright because she was very nice and a good friend.

  3. Plot • The plot of the book is very slow moving. This is the order of what happened in the story. • #1 Turner moves to Maine. #2 He meets Mrs. Cobb, Mrs. Hurd and Lizzie Bright. Lizzie Bright is his first friend. #3 Lizzie and Turner play on Malaga Island where Lizzie lives. #4 Lizzie gets hurt and Turner tries to take her to his house for help. #5 The town people were not happy that Turner was friends with a Negro. #6 The town people take all of the Negroes off Malaga Island and take them to the asylum. #7 Turner’s dad get hurt trying to help the Negroes and soon dies. #8 Lizzie Bright dies at the asylum. #9 Turner and his mother move into Mrs. Cobb’s house which she left to Turner when she died.

  4. Setting • The main setting is in Main and Malaga Island.

  5. Problem • Turner moves into a new town and meets Lizzie Bright. They become friends but the town is trying to get all the Negros out of the island. (Lizzie is a Negro.) • The towns problem is that they want the Negros out of Malaga Island.

  6. Soultion • Turner does not get his way in the book the Negros get sent to asylum and Lizzie dies. • The town seems to get there way and the Negros get sent to the asylum.
