  3. Employees within effective Support Service Departments… • Know “what is most important” in the department • What is “most important” is stated in the Department plan on a page: • Vision, • Mission, • Goals, • Values/Beliefs • Measures

Employees within effective Support Service Departments… • Recognize how their work directly contributes to the Department Plan on a Page • Efforts are aligned to the mission and goals of the Department Plan on a Page. • SMART goals provide clarity (specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and time bound). • In turn, every employee within the department needs to identify how their work is aligned to the department goals

Employees within effective Support Service Departments… • Understand how progress will be measured toward the Department Plan on a Page. • Identify measures that show “in-process” progress toward department goals • Data displays can serve as the public visual to drive improvements • Every employee needs to understand how their individual contributions can be measured to determine their effectiveness as well

  6. 2010-11 Key tasks • Department Plan on a Page • Connecting support service departments to the strategic plan • Department Balanced Scorecard • Using data to identify opportunities for improvement and monitor progress of the department plan on a page • Implementing a department data display • Continuous Improvement • Use quality tools and process to seek stakeholder input and drive improvement within the department

  7. How will all this be accomplished? Department Leadership Teams will: • Model and demonstrate teamwork, collaboration and shared leadership within their team • Set and communicate direction within the department • Practice continuous improvement within the • department through quality tools and processes • Constantly seek input from all employees within the department (and customers outside the department) to ensure the “Voice of the Customer” is heard
