Reports are written in chronological order • Documenting your actions • Tell reader exactly what you did • Arrival - what you did / time • Contact with victim / witness • Crime scene search
The Report • Headings - insure continuity - coordinate the report - easier reading for reader - assist officer in court to locate items • Use headings you want (department policy) • Keep in mind who reads reports - reflects on you / your department - influences defense attorneys
