  1. Proposed RAS modeling WECC Joint User Group Meeting 8/28/2012 Amos Ang

  2. General Modeling Concept • Use a flow diagram to model RAS actions • Include any pertinent algorithms • Flow diagram should include power flow and dynamics logic • Can be used as a template for different platforms (PSLF, PSS®E, Power World, etc…)

  3. General Modeling Concept example

  4. PSLF Specific Modeling • Use of SSTools and DYTools • SSTools • Pre-EPCL • Monitor elements that are being looked at by the RAS • Output to a text file for review and check • Post-EPCL • Reads in the output of the Pre-EPCL and does the logic to decide if RAS is activated • Outputs RAS will activate message to be process by Provisio HD • 2nd Post-EPCL • Re-run contingency runs with 2nd Post-EPCL that would actual do the RAS action and output RAS activated messaged to be displayed when processed by Provisio HD

  5. PSLF Specific Modeling (cont.) • DYTools • Use an in-run EPCL that has the logic of the RAS and open lines / run back generation / trip load / trip generation… with the correct timing cycles for action • This can be done a couple of ways that can use input from the group • All in one in-run EPCL with all the RASes modeled? • Specific in-run EPCL with specific RASes modeled for each area? • Specific in-run EPCL with specific RASes modeled for each region?
