This project aims to educate parents and communities about the CCSS, increase public awareness and support, enhance parent participation in PTA, and promote diversity. Challenges include reaching non-PTA parents, consistent messaging, and language barriers. The 15th District PTA in Louisville, KY conducted workshops at schools and community groups, reaching over 10,000 parents and community members. The success included awards, extra funding for workshops, and recognition as National Champions of Change. Assessment guides and resources were provided to support parents in understanding the new standards. National PTA is creating assessment guides for each state and providing resources and FAQs to support parents.

Assessment & Accountability • Definitions of tests being created (interim, summative, formative, etc) • Sample test questions at the elementary, middle and high school levels • State-specific accountability systems at the student, teacher and school levels • What parents can expect • How parents can support their child
Assessment & Accountability • Working with each DOE to collect and verify state-specific information • The first two states (New York and Oregon) should be ready in the next few weeks • We are also trying to keep up with the rapidly changing environment around assessments – the new flexibility allowances, states shifting consortia, etc.
