SPIDER beam test • Goals • Beam test plan • Beam test DAQ • Effort/Cost estimate per beam test • Key milestones Jaap Velthuis, University of Bristol
Goals • Performance of a tracking sensor measured in: • Spatial resolution • Efficiency • Purity • Charge division and collection • For this need high energy beam test • Available at CERN or Fermilab • Performance of a calorimeter measured in energy resolution, but for TPAC need to study as well: • Efficiency per pixel • Dead areas • Signal size for MIP • Charge diffusion • Pixel-pixel variations • For energy resolution need variable energy (<50GeV e-), but for other interesting variables need high energy Jaap Velthuis, University of Bristol
Beam Test Plan • Two beam tests are foreseen: • September 2010 • JESSICA1, ISIS2, TPAC2.0 • March 2012 • JESSICA2, ISIS3, TPAC2.1 • Programme: • At CERN starting with week time in PS. • Debugging JESSICA+ISIS2 using low E for TPAC2.1 stack in first week • Second and third week high E beam (can be e-, μ, ). Vary E • First week 60 GeV e-, second week 180 GeV • Also TPAC sensor standalone (making a signal map) Jaap Velthuis, University of Bristol
Beam Test DAQ • For the precise tracking we rely on the EUDET telescope: • <100μm thick Si • ~2×2cm2 sensors • <2.5 μm single hit resolution • Available at CERN and DESY • All sensors are running freely in “OR” mode • EUDET TLU gives triggers with time stamp (50MHz clock) • No problem for TPAC when using new EUDET C&C • Use remote shifts, only 4-5 experts needed on site Jaap Velthuis, University of Bristol
Effort/Cost estimate per beam test • Preparation (excl making sensor DAQ) • Interfacing with EUDET TLU/C&C 2 months • Setting up complete DAQ chain 1 months • Data taking • 5 experts on site 5 months • Analysis • 6 months per sensor 18 months • Other: • Transport of equipment £ 4k • Travel costs per person (based EUDET money) £ 10k (for group) • Cryostat for ISISx 2 weeks • Some extra soldering etc 2 weeks Jaap Velthuis, University of Bristol
Key milestones • 3 papers per beam test • … Jaap Velthuis, University of Bristol
