Implementing Sediment and Pathogen TMDLs in Southern Sonoma County

Work with private landowners, use cost-effective techniques like flow regime modification and stormwater detention to reduce runoff, and mitigate hydromodification effects. Progress includes site selection, agreements, and design development. Next steps involve additional site selection, design, and permit requirements. Related projects include TMDL programs, conservation planning tools, public outreach on water management, and participation in stakeholder groups.

  2. Scope Overview • Work in cooperation with private landowners • Use low-cost techniques to: • Modify flow regimes, reducing peak runoff • Detain stormwater • Mitigate effects of prior hydromodification • Trap and/or filter sediments • Promote on-site water reuse for irrigation

  3. Progress to Date • Site selection • Landowner agreement • Contractor agreement • Preliminary conceptual design

  4. Next Steps • Second site selection • Landowner agreement for site 2 • Site 2 design • Develop and complete QAPP • Pursue permit requirements

  5. SSCRCD Related TMDL Projects • Sonoma Creek TMDL-Vineyard & Grazing Waiver Programs and Supporting Conservation Planning Tools for Ag land managers • Public outreach on stormH20 and grH20 management, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and sediment reduction • Participant in Stakeholder Outreach Group (SCWA –Sonoma Valley GrH20 Recharge Scoping Study) • Member, Basin Advisory Panel, SV GrH20 Management Study

  6. Outreach & Capacity Building
