  9. After last year’s annual meeting • What direction do our members want us to take? • What is important to our members? • With limited funding and resources what can we do? • Hey, let’s ask our members .

  10. OUR CLPA MEMBERS SPOKE VOTING RESULTS ARE IN

  11. VOTING RESULTS • We sent out 290 ballots to CLPA members • 180 returned questioner • For a 62% voter response • Out of 180 returns 49 wished to volunteer • 10 would volunteer to be on a committee • 1 would chair committee

  12. TOP 6 CLPA Member Concerns • Number 1 • Preventing agricultural runoff into lakes and streams (water quality) • Number 2 • Lake Monitoring (secchi readings, water quality) • Number 3 Soliciting grants for lake management • Number 4 Shoreline restoration (Providing direction and native plants for creating a buffer zone) • Number 5 • Weed control • Number 6 Fish Crib Project

  13. Middle 6 concerns7 - 12 • Number 7 • Walleye stocking programs • Number 8 • Boat landing inspections (inspecting boat & trailers for invasive species) • Number 9 • Rock reefs for fish habitat • Number 10 • Lobbying legislatures on pending and future environmental bills • Number 11 • Assisting DNR on various lake projects • Number 12 • Addressing excessive boat speed on lakes

  14. Bottom 6 Member Concerns13-18 • Number 13 • Addressing Bass tournaments and their effect on fish • Number 14 • Assisting DNR in maintenance of aerator in Prairie Lake • Number 15 • Law enforcement monitoring on lakes during holidays and weekends • Number 16 • Increasing Membership • Number 17 • Upkeep of information board at all landings • Number 18 • Website maintenance

  15. Member comments • Keep up the good work • Upkeep of information boards (include resort landings) • Eliminate all Bass tournaments- all it does is bring in drunk drivers & support bass • Stop sending stamped return envelopes. We can’t afford that. • Bass numbers and size dropped off the last 2 years • Boat speeds – especially in shallow areas. Has affect on reproduction when the bottom is all stirred up. • Thank everyone for all the outstanding work they do, from a out of Towner it doesn’t go unnoticed! • This is a great stuff- press on! • Why can we not get the lakes clear, why are they green? • Because of living out of area and not being physically available, I will help financially by donating more money for cost of projects. • Keep website updates with information (projects) which might allow non-locals to assist when in the Chetek area • Rent 2 bill boards, 1 at double SS and county M. We need to educate public on having clean boats and what not to do on their lawns, to help in the runoff area into our lakes. • I talked to a guy yesterday who told me he was very impressed with the website. • This letter is a great idea • I think we should just concentrate on cleaning the lake water up. Without this there may not be a need for the rest. Thank you for doing such a good work in the past. • The Bass boats are very loud and should not start so early in the morning and not on Sundays when other people are trying to rest. It is very annoying listening to bass boats speed up & down the lake – they are loud. Also how about respect for the other fisherman. A lot of people are on vacation those weekends. Can not be good for the fish either. Please do something

  16. WE HAVE NO MAGIC BULLET But we do have a sound plan and direction

  17. Action Plan - John • Number 1 • Preventing agricultural runoff into lakes and streams (water quality) Working with Barron county Soil and Water Conservation Dept. to implement nutrient Plan for participating farmers. • Creating filter strips A filter strip is an area of grass and other non-woody vegetation that buffer streams, lakes, or wetlands by filtering from runoff or unsafe water sediment, pesticides, organic matter and other pollutants. • Riparian buffer Is an area of trees and shrubs located between sources of non-point source pollution and streams, lakes, ponds, or wetlands. The buffers are located so they intercept surface runoff and shallow subsurface flow so as to filter out sediment, pesticides, nutrients, organic matter, and other sources of pollutants before the flow enter the buffered resources.

  18. Action Plan Continued • Number 1 • Preventing agricultural runoff into lakes and streams (water quality) Farmers in the Chetek Watershed are eligible for the following cost share practices: No Till Conservation Tillage Fall/Winter cover crop Soil testing

  19. Action Plan - Bob • Number 2 • Lake Monitoring (secchi readings, water quality) - Weekly monitoring of 3 lakes, Chetek, Prairie Lake, and Ojaski - History can be seen at http://www.dnr.wisconsin.gov/org/water/fhp/lakes/selfhelp/index.htm

  20. Action Plan - Augie • Number 3 Soliciting grants for lake management

  21. Action Plan - John • Number 4 Shoreline restoration (Providing direction and native plants for creating a buffer zone) - Sent out over 1100 mailings to lakeshore property owners - Received to date xxxx

  22. Action Plan - John • Number 5 • Weed control Working in partnership with Barron county soil and water conservation department to implement a ban on residential use of phosphorous. We attended county meeting to support this direction. 1 pound of phosphorus will produce 500 pounds of algae

  23. Action Plan - Don • Number 5 • Weed control Boat landing monitoring Hours ? # of boats # of volunteers Findings?

  24. Action Plan - Don • Number 6 Fish Crib Project Where ? # of fish cribs # of hours # of volunteers

  25. That covers the top 6 member concerns

  26. Other Projects we worked on • “Welcome to the Lakeshore” package • Placement and removal of aerators • Supported Walleyes for Chetek • Maintaining 18 boat landing information boards • Membership drive • Adopt a crib project • Maintaining website • Started a newsletter via email (do we have your email?)

  27. Now we have to ask • Are we wasting our time? • Do you think the direction we are taking is a step in right direction?

  28. QUESTIONS ?????? • OPEN FLOOR
