古代中國技術 ANCIENT Chinese technology By: Megan Barnes
China.. • “A common stereotype is that the Chinese traditionally lack scientific and technological ability, although somehow, they stumbled upon paper making, printing, gunpowder, and the compass” (“Ancient Chinese Technology”). • China was an amazing country that excelled any other civilization of their past, but yet was still unrecognized!
Why Ancient Chinese Technology? Reasons why I picked Ancient Chinese Technology: • Interesting Topic for me • It was part of the correct criteria for the project • No one else was doing the topic • The topic has never really been talked about before
My Thesis… My Thesis statement.. • Ancient Chinese Technology surpassed any other civilization because of its resources, education, and need for adaptation.
My Three Blueprints • There were 3 points of my paper that seemed to prove my thesis statement. • Resources • Education • The Need for Adaptation *I chose these 3 blueprints, because they seemed the most logical and the most reoccurring when I did my research.
Resources… • Land • Mulberry Trees & silkworms (Silk).) • Maya Trees (Paper) • Saltpeter (Gunpowder)
Resources… • People/ Education • T’saiLun (Creator of Paper) • Farmers (Tools) • Confucius ( Philosopher who inspired inventors) *Without these people’s education their discoveries would never have happened
Resources… • Rivers • Conservation of water (canals) • Water as a source (settlements)
Resources… • Rivers • Using the rivers (transportation) • Using the rivers (energy source)
Education… • Early Beginning • 1st country (written language) • Discovery (decimal system/mathematics) • Early schooling (compass/directions)
Education… • Opportunities for Education • Anyone could go to school • No religious problems • Start school at young ages
Education… • Advantages • Schools/Colleges developed rapidly • Successful students (Engineers, Architects, etc.) • Education (writing materials, paper)
The need for adaptation… • Agriculture • Farming (Iron Plow) • Plant Crops (Hoe) • Control Plowing (Harness for horses)
The need for adaptation… • Natural Resources/ Man-made resources • Need Protection (Great Wall of China) • Conservation of water (Grand Canal) • Control Rivers (Locks of Canals)
The need for adaptation… • Better Living • Paper Money “Flying Money” • Bronze (tools) • Matches
Conclusion… • China really contributed a lot of inventions that the world uses today! • Restating Thesis: China’s use of resources, education, and need for adaptation let them become the most technologically advanced civilization of their time.
