  2. Hazard • A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment. • Inadequate hazard recognition has been identified as one of the main causes of incidents within the oil and gas industry.

  3. Recognition and Identification • Take a systematic application of the Hazard Identification Tool to help reduce incidents caused by inadequate hazard identification.

  4. Gravity • Falling object, collapsing roof and a body tripping or falling

  5. Motion • Vehicle, vessel or equipment movement; flowing water; wind and body positioning when lifting, straining or bending

  6. Mechanical • Rotating equipment, compressed springs, drive belts, conveyors and motors

  7. Electrical • Power lines, transformers, static charges, lightning, energized equipment, wiring and batteries

  8. Pressure • Pressure piping, compressed cylinders, control lines, vessels, tanks, hoses and pneumatic and hydraulic equipment

  9. Temperature • Open flame; ignition sources; hot or cold surfaces, liquids or gases; steam; friction; and general environmental and weather conditions

  10. Chemical • Flammable vapors, reactive hazards, carcinogens or other toxic compounds, corrosives, pyrophorics, combustibles, oxygen-deficient atmospheres, welding fumes and dusts

  11. Biological • Animals, bacteria, viruses, insects, bloodborne pathogens, improperly handled food and contaminated water

  12. Radiation • Lighting issues, welding arcs, solar rays, microwaves, lasers, X-rays and NORM scale

  13. Noise • Equipment noise, impact noise, vibration, high-pressure release and the impact of noise to communication.

  14. Controls • Remove the energy source • Prevent the release of energy • Protect from the release • Use Stop-Work Authority
