  2. How Can I KnowThat I Am Saved? God’s Evidence of Pardon Presented by Chris Reeves * University Oaks church of Christ * Gospel Meeting * July 19, 2010

  3. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? • This is the most important question of all time (Lk. 5:32; 19:10) • Some are not concerned about the question at all • Others are concerned but doubtful • Many are concerned but mislead • All can be concerned with certainty

  4. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? • In the Bible, no lost person turned to other lost persons for the answer to this question • In the Bible, no lost person turned to himself for the answer to this question • In the Bible, lost persons always turned to those who delivered God’s word (Num. 21:7-8; John 3:1-5)

  5. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? Not by turning to others for the answer • Commandments of men (Col. 2:16ff) • Religious traditions (Mt. 15:1-9,14) • Other messages (Gal. 1:6-9) • Majority (Mt. 7:13-14) • Parents (Mt. 10:37)

  6. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? Not by turning to self for the answer • Living a good life (Acts 8:26ff; 10:1ff) • Honesty, feelings, or conscience (Acts 9:1-2; 22:19-20,16; 26:9; Prov. 14:12; 28:26; 2 K. 5; Jer. 10:23) • Past good deeds (Mt. 19:16-21; Lk. 18:11-13) • Personal plan of salvation (Rom. 10:3; Tit. 3:5)

  7. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? By turning to God’s word for the answer • Salvation is always connected with God’s word (Acts 2:37; 8:12,35; 11:14; 16:14,32; 17:11-12; 18:8; Rom. 10:17; 1 Cor. 1:18; Jas. 1:21) • What the Holy Spirit says in the NT bears witness with our spirit / mind (Rom. 8:16) • We read what is written and then we know (1 Jn. 5:13)

  8. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? By turning to God’s word for the answer • All sin is against God (Gen. 39:9; 2 Sam. 12:13) • God must forgive on his terms (Heb. 8:12; 1 Jn. 1:9) • God must communicate his terms of forgiveness to mankind

  9. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? God’s word says… • Hear (Acts 15:7; Rom. 10:17) • Believe (Jn. 8:24; Heb. 11:6) • Repent (Acts 2:38; 17:30) • Confess (Acts 8:37; Rom. 10:9-10) • Be Baptized (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Pet. 3:21) • Live Faithfully (Lk. 9:23,62; Rom. 6:3-4)

  10. How Can I Know That I Am Saved? • We do not turn to others or self for important matters of this life, we turn to a fixed standard: weights, measures, etc. • Why turn to anyone other than God for the answer to the most important of all questions? • You can know right now whether or not you are saved! Are you?
