  2. Introduction “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.” George Orwell was the pen name for the famous English novelist, essayist, and critic Eric Arthur Blair. He was most famous for his novels Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-four (1949). He was also a man of strong opinions who addressed some of the major political movements of his times, including imperialism, fascism, and communism. George Orwell faced a lot of difficulties in his life but he was a fighter that kept of fighting for his ambitions.

Early Years • Born on June, 25, 1903 in Motihari, India. • Son of British civil servant. • Spent his first days in India where his father was stationed. • After a year of his birth his mother brought him and his older sister, Marjorie, to England. • Younger sister was born in 1908 Avril. • His dad retired from the service in 1912. • Never bonded with his father. • Sick child, often battling bronchitis and the flu. • Composed his first poem at the age of four. • His first literary success came at the age of 11.

  4. Education • Sent to boarding school. • In 1911 he went to St. Cyprian’s. • Books made him happy. • Read works by Rudyard Kipling and H. G. Wells. • Scholarship to Wellington College and Eton College to continue his studies. • Dead end in Eton. • No money. • Joined the Imperial Police force. • Resigned after five years.

  5. Career & Accomplishments • His first major work, Down and Out in Paris and London, (1933). • Burmese Days, published in 1934. • Job with the BBC as a producer. • Literary editor for socialist newspaper.

  6. Personal Information • Married to Eileen O’Shaughnessy until her death in 1945. • The couples adopted a son in 1944 • Son was raised by Avril. • Orwell proposed to another women. • He married her in 1950.. • Sonia Mary Brownellinherited Orwell’s estate.

  7. Later Years • Orwell was best known for the novels, Animal Farm (1945). • In 1949, Orwell published another masterwork, Nineteen Eighty-Four .

  8. Conclusion The fighter George Orwell is a really inspiring man. He was a man who made something of himself while he was literally nothing. He was just born with the gift or writing and that is what made his who he is today which is a really famous writer with books that open readers eyes in their lives.
