  2. SHORT BACKGROUND • 2006 - Passed: New York Ocean and Great Lakes Ecosystem Conservation Act (Act) • Act Created: New York Ocean and Great Lakes Ecosystem Conservation Council (Council) • 2009 – Council Finished: Our Waters, Our Communities, Our Future –Called for Ocean Action Plan

  3. WHAT IS IT? • Will be a guide for New York State’s management and funding for ocean ecosystems

  4. WHAT IS IT? • Five year plan with discrete Action Steps to improve the health of New York’s ocean ecosystem

  5. WHO IS INVOLVED? • DEC and DOS co-authoring • Feedback from relevant NY State agencies • Ocean resource user groups • You - Marine Science Consortium providing Priority Research Needs

  6. TIMELINE • September/October– • Federal Agency Feedback • Stakeholder/User Group Feedback • MSC Priority Research Needs • November - Official Public Comment Period • December- Final
