  8. 9. The passage we are about to read describes an event in the life of a real person, but has all the elements of a fiction story. • In the 1930s, girls had few opportunities to play on sports teams. The time in which Dottie lived forced her to be strong, creative, and determined. She decided to play softball any way she could – even if it meant joining an all-boys team. 17. Stations • Today we will try Stations for the first time. We need to think about a few procedures and rules before we begin. • The most important thing to remember is to stay on task at all times. I will be busy with a small group and it is extremely important that we ALL do our very best ALL the time. Free powerpoint template: www.brainybetty.com

  18. Use this time to do your work and do NOT disturb anyone else, including Mrs. Martin. • If you need to tell me something, please write a note to me on a sticky note and place it on the pink poster board by the door. I will read them and help you later. Free powerpoint template: www.brainybetty.com

  19. STATIONS • Everyday each group will read, write, and meet with me. We will also have an extra station that will change. • On Mondays, we will some type of word work, usually working with spelling. • Tuesdays, will be working on Fluency and Thursday will be technology. Free powerpoint template: www.brainybetty.com

  20. You will have directions for each station and they should be self-explanatory. I will explain each station before, but if you have questions, you should be able to read the instructions for yourself. Free powerpoint template: www.brainybetty.com

  21. What at Weekend! • Our writing assignment on Mondays will always be about something that happened over the weekend. It doesn’t have to be anything exciting, but it needs to be about one specific things – not just a list of things that you did over the weekend. • For example, let’s read about my exciting event over the weekend about Ping Pong. Free powerpoint template: www.brainybetty.com

  22. Transitions • Transition periods are when we go from one station to the next. We have to remember that we go quickly, quietly and orderly to our next station. It is important that we waste no time. Free powerpoint template: www.brainybetty.com
