Above The Influence • Some movies and music make stoners look cool and natural • It limits your brain’s effectiveness and will make you do bad in school • Studies shown smoking weed increased rates of anxiety and depression. • Over half of seniors and high school have tried weed
Does peer pressure have any effect? • A new study says it has little effect • It says that self management skills and psychological characteristics have a bigger impact • It showed the importance of high refusal assertiveness skills • However, the study was taken in the form of a survey, thus the scientific validity of the study is questionable (because of response bias)

Teen Drug Abuse • Peers are major determinants of adolescent drug use • Teens who’s friends use drugs are at an increased likelihood of using drugs themselves • Some other factors lead to teen drug use but peers is one of the most prevelant • Using social networking sites is a very easy and affective way to study adolescent drug use in the context of peer groups
Role Models can influence drug use • Peer relationships are important for adolescent drug use. • Family behavior influences teens to have different habits. • Family and friends are primary groups, so they have a lot of influence on others. • Adolescents acquire attitudes favorable to drug use.
