  1. Multimedia By Casey Kucera

  2. Vector Graphics • Composed of objects not pixels • Object oriented graphics = vector graphics • Stores a series of mathematical equations • Vector graphics can be: • Edited • Scaled • Repositioned • Recolored • Exported as bitmaps

  3. Zooming vector graphics saves: • Time • Data storage • Useful for mapping data • Can be easily scaled • No quality loss • Vector graphics need faster computer processors • Mathematically complex equations • Curved shapes • Constructing to many individual vectors

  4. 3D Vector Images • Vectors create 3d images • Video games • Film • Television networks • Architects use vector graphics in CAD to: • Create 3D drawings • Develop products • Create physics tests • The CAD program allows designers to: • Create physical properties of 3D modles • Weight • Strength • Material

  5. Graphics In the Movies • (CGI) used to create: • Animations • Special effects • Realism • Motion capture • Textures create realism • Balance between detail and mathematical complexity • Creates required level of detail (grass) • 3D graphic properties: • Hardness • Reflectivity • Smoothness • Intensity of light and colors can be added • To produce high quality render farms improve it • Render farms ( thousands of computers improving processing)

  6. Video Formats • Audio Video Interleave : lossy compression • MOV : popular of Apple hardware/ created by a digital camera • MP4 :more effective lossy compression • MWV: Microsoft's video format

  7. Audio Formats • ACC: developed by Apple uses lossy compression • FLAC: open file format with lossy compression • MP3: sharing site uses lossy compression • WAV: standard or audio software • WMA: Developed by Microsoft supports streamed videos and lossy

  8. Image Formats • Bitmap Image: lossless compression • Tagged image file format: professionally published/ printed uses lossless compression • GIF: its obsolete and uses lossless compression • PNG: New lossless format that replaces GIF • JPEG: Common lossy file • PSD: Adobe’s custom propriety file format • RAW/CR2: More colorful information produced by SLR cameras • SVG: New format supporting vector graphics
