The Watergate Scandal • Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States and a Republican • He served as President from 1969-1974, in the middle of his second term an unprecedented political scandal occurred • The scandal is named after the Watergate office complex where 5 men were caught attempting to steal money from the Democratic National Committee's headquarters • It was later found that this money was to go into the Committee for the Re-Election of the President, which Nixon controlled • After investigators found audio recordings showing that Nixon was in on it, Nixon decided to resign/step down as President of the U.S., before he got impeached. He is the only President to quit the Presidency ever
