  2. SIRSI to Banner Financial • Project summary: Collect data entered into SIRSI from vendor invoices. Send data to Banner system (campus financial system). • Goal: Avoid the re-keying of data by Banner clerks. Save 1 ½ position lines. • Done with SIRSI API tools, shell scripting, UNIX tools, and some PERL.

  3. SIRSI to Banner Financial • Why Not Oracle? • Oracle was just a gleam in SIRSI’s eye when Rice started this project. • “Oracle” is a magic word. Oracle use means position upgrades. • Issues about data security (see playing with others, next slide). Plan is to move to an Oracle based app. once the concept has proven itself (2 years out).

  4. SIRSI to Banner Financial • Project management (hindsight is 20/20): • Make nice with others • Know the workflow • Share the sandbox, but don’t give it away. • Be flexible • Never give up.

  5. SIRSI to Banner Financial • Key Questions: • What are we really after? • What did Banner Staff want, how did they want it? • What is the SIRSI acquisitions structure (& how do we use it)? • Invoices are linked to invoice lines. Lines can be paid via Fund, Orderline, Adjustment, Line-proration, Copy-proration,Price-proration. • How does SIRSI handle special cases: • Multi-funding, proration, credits • Other site specific “customs”

  6. SIRSI to Banner Financial • Some Key Answers from Rice: • In our case Banner wanted 9 pieces of data. • Agreement upon a match point for vendors • Find a place for Banner codes (in our case 3 fields which we put in VED) • Rice’s pays invoices via Fund, Orderline, and Adjust, and does Proration • Deposit accounts should not go over since they are handled separately.

  7. SIRSI to Banner Financial • Project Summary best done in text format … over to Microsoft Word
